Description | Even after World War I came to an end, this Jewish family living in a one-room home in Glinna-Nawaria, Galicia (now Stajca, Ukraine), faced three more years of war. Galicia was at the center of territorial battles during the Polish-Ukrainian War (1918-1919) and the Russo-Polish War (1919-1920). Beyond the common struggles for survival, Jews in this region faced the added danger of pogroms. Although originally established in response to World War I, the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) continued its work after the war's end to provide essential humanitarian relief and to repair and rebuild Jewish communal life. | |||
