Description | Volunteer workers load food and medical supplies from a former landing craft sent by the JDC to passengers of the SS Exodus 1947, all of whom were Jewish refugees. The British detained the ship from entering Palestine, and transferred the passengers onto the newer ship, the SS Runnymede Park, to take them to France. The French government refused to allow the passengers to disembark unless it was voluntary, sparking a hunger strike. | |||
