Description | The first JDC medical unit of 18 physicians and sanitation personnel arrived in Poland January 1921: Dr. Harry Plotz (seated third from right), Mr. Samuel M. Schmidt, Dr. Izak Alcazar, Dr. Marcus M. Anshin, Dr. Zelly A. Bonoff, Mr. Max J. Colton, Dr. Reuben Friedman, Dr. Jacob J. Golub, Dr. Rudolf Kohn (seated far left), Dr. Irvin Michlin, Dr. Samuel Newman, Mr. Abraham Horowitz, Dr. Samuel Fox, Dr. Harry Apfel (seated second from left), Dr. Zachary Sagal, Dr. Louis Silver, Dr. Simon Wendkos, and Mr. Samuel Fleisig. The team consisted of thirteen physicians, two public health workers, one dentist, one pharmacist, and one secretary. Working with Polish-Jewish medical aid organizations, they helped to revive, transform and finance almost 500 medical and sanitation institutions, including public baths, dispensaries, hospitals, sanitaria, X-ray stations, nurses training schools, milk centers and well-baby stations. | |||
