Description | This baby's birth in 1945 was the first one among the 250 non-Italian Jews in Italy. Refugees from Austria, Poland, Germany, and Czechoslovakia had started to arrive in camps there. The brit (circumcision ceremony) took place at Cinecittà, in Rome, the center for DP camps in Italy. A mohel presided while Reuben B. Resnik, JDC’s Country Director at the time, held the baby. The former (and future) Italian movie studio, had been used by the Germans during WW2 to house prisoners of war, and then as the center for DP Camps in Italy. | |||
