Description | In 1946-47, Jews from Romania, Hungary, and Poland, including large numbers of families and orphaned children, fled Eastern Europe. The population of refugees in the DP camps of the Western occupied zones of Germany and Austria more than tripled. From these camps, they hoped to emigrate to Palestine, the United States or other countries far away from their countries of origin. | |||
